About lapd

We are a RIBA Chartered Practice based in Oxfordshire that was established in 2005 by Trevor Avery and Opinder Liddar. From the beginning, we knew we wanted to invest in a company ethos that championed clear communication, uncompromising honesty and innovative design. lapd Architects are a team where everyone takes responsibility in an office-culture of mutual respect.

We are now a well-respected medium sized practice that works on an array of different projects: homeowner extensions and refurbishments, new homes and self-builds, developers’ projects and commercial ventures.

We actively encourage each other to push boundaries and produce work that excels. The sum of lapd is always greater than its parts. That’s why we make sure to acknowledge the important part that every individual in the company has to play.

I have over 30 years of experience in design and management, and have been an Oxford resident for about as long. At the weekend you will find me building the odd boat or looking for rapids to test the latest canoe.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

We aim to place the client at the centre of the process and provide holistic solutions.

How would you sum up your job?

I make sure that our business ideals and standards are maintained – I steer the ship to make sure that our clients are happy with the service they are being provided.

I’ve been a Wallingford resident for 20 years and I’m actively involved in the community. When I’m not taking my children to various clubs you’ll find me building my own self-build or running.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

We don’t just talk the talk, we are always trying to better our service for our clients. We are a member of NaCSBA and I am a regular expert for Build It Magazine both in print and at their shows. This helps me to keep in touch with what real clients are feeling, and relate that back to the team at lapd to make sure we are addressing the real challenges that our clients are facing. It is this genuine care for our clients that make us stand out as a team.

How would you sum up your job?

I’m committed to great design based around our client’s vision. I make sure that we communicate designs to our clients effectively and guide them through the whole journey, filtering the noise to keep them in control of their project.

I am originally from South Africa and have extensive experience across a wide variety of projects, specialising in concept & design development and project management. I have built my own house in South Africa and I have completed a self-build locally.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, walking and playing hockey.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

I joined lapd in 2013 and I really enjoy the variety of interesting projects I have found myself working on. I also enjoy being involved in all aspects of the process, from conception through to completion.
Even though the office is generally very busy, we still manage to have a relaxed atmosphere with flexibility and great team comradery.
The main thing that distinguishes lapd from other architects is our focus on client care and going the extra mile to make the client’s journey special. We always produce something that both us and our clients can be proud of at the end of the process.

I’m from Albania originally and now live just outside of Oxford. I enjoy travelling and spending time with my family.

Alex Florea, Architect

Bio

I am an Architect with work experience that spans over a decade. I moved to the UK in 2018 to further develop and refine my skills. In my spare time, you may find me on my motorbike.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

I like that each of the team members has a voice and expressing ideas is encouraged. This results in a highly diverse range of projects and innovations – fostering an environment like few others.

How would you sum up your job?

“People who build their own home tend to be very courageous. These people are curious about life. They’re thinking about what it means to live in a house, rather than just buying a commodity and making it work.” (Tom Kundig) And we are here to guide and support them through it.

Simona Puckovicova, Architect

Bio

I have been an Oxfordshire resident since 2013 when I began my studies at Oxford Brookes University. I joined lapd in July 2019 and have completed my professional exams to qualify as an Architect while working here. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and some art projects in-between.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

The practice is very client-oriented, focusing on tailoring the design process on each individual project for every client. This means every day differs from the last, bringing along its own set of challenges and rewards. I really enjoy working alongside our dedicated team in providing our client’s goals.

How would you sum up your job?

I help our team in providing a unique service for each of our clients’ needs and dreams, including visual renders of proposals to high quality standard.

Bio

Out of the office, I am kept busy by my baby son who is newly mobile and is usually chasing around our two house rabbits. When time allows, I love catching up with friends and family over a good meal.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

As a non-Architect, I am learning every day about the industry. What struck me most upon starting at lapd Architects was the emphasis on teamwork, everyone working collaboratively and sharing ideas. It’s definitely a welcoming and creative workplace that puts people and everyday living at the heart of every project.

How would you sum up your job?

I am the first point of contact for our clients, and I love to find out about their potential projects and explain how we can help them to realise their dream homes.

Tung Li, Architectural Assistant

Bio

I moved to the UK from Hong Kong in 2017. I gained a 1st Class Honours degree from University of Greenwich and MArch from the Architectural Association School of Architecture. I joined lapd in May 2023 as an Architectural Assistant and I am looking forward to studying my part 3 soon.

What is different about working at lapd Architects?

The practice brings cutting-edge yet realistic thought and design. We believe Architects should think and act outside the box, and therefore keep on trying different innovative technologies such as VR, Point Cloud Surveying and 3D printing in the company.

How would you sum up your job?

I assist the team to create space in response to clients’ needs. We visualise their dreams and translate them into a realistic building.
