Rob and Georgie wanted to make some fundamental changes to their home in Maidenhead: they wanted more space, a better internal layout, and an external appearance that looked beautiful from the roadside. Their project is a wonderful example of how you don’t have to relocate to achieve drastic improvements for your home living.

From the inside the downstairs living area was rationalized to provide for the open plan living that Rob and Georgie wanted, along with a side extension at the rear to make space for a utility room. Upstairs another bedroom was added above the garage, and a glazed double height entrance space allowed the stairwell and bedroom to benefit from natural light throughout much of the day.

What is most striking is the frontage of the property, which has completely transformed from a dated and tired looking detached house to something aesthetic and stunning to come home to after a long day at work. The specified use of slate on the roof, powder coated aluminium and extensive glazing all works together to achieve something truly special.

Their home now works for their family and their life. In addition to this, the project won the 2019 readers’ choice Build It Award for best Architect for a Renovation or Extension category.
