Stunning conversion of Grade 2 listed mill to create open plan apartments with near-zero carbon footprint

Location: East Hanney

This mill had originally been used as a water-driven silk and grain mill. After extensive negotiation with the planners and Local Rivers Authority the mill was converted into four luxury apartments with the design focused on sustainability.

This project included the conversion of a grade II listed mill with an Archimedes hydro screw, ground source heat pump and thermal solar and photo-voltaic panels.

The development achieves an impressive 91% reduced carbon footprint by harnessing the power of the river through an Archimedes hydro screw, ground source heat pump and thermal solar and photo-voltaic panels.

After all the hard work that went into this project, it was brilliant to see the design win a number of prizes:
