The developer for this project was concerned with extracting both value for money and a project quality which indicated individuality as well as practicality. They wanted to create a development consisting of four properties: two being a conversion of an 18th century barn, two being new dwellings.

The listed status of the original barn placed heavy restrictions on external alterations, which required careful management and coordination on our part here at lapd Architects.

The contrast between traditional historic exterior and sleek modern interior was facilitated in our realisation of the developer’s concept and seen to completion through our involvement with the interior design process.

The semi-communal aspect of the four dwellings, all focussed around the courtyard, is a tasteful, yet practical, nod to the original function of the farm house itself.

This project is an example of the idiosyncratic designs which can arise from a meaningful client relationship, as championed by the lapd ethos.
